How GMCMI Keeps the GMC Motorhome Legacy Alive

The GMC Motorhome was manufactured for just six years — 1973 through 1978. General Motors produced approximately 12,921 units before ending production. No successor model was ever built.

By any measure, these coaches should have faded quietly into obscurity decades ago.

They haven’t. And a significant reason for that is GMCMI.

What GMCMI Does

GMC Motorhomes International is the only club in existence dedicated exclusively to the vintage GMC Motorhome. Founded in 1982 — just four years after the last coach rolled off the assembly line — GMCMI has served as the organizational backbone of the GMC owner community for over four decades.

The club’s work happens on multiple fronts:

  • Knowledge preservation. Through TZE Chronicles, the club’s magazine, and an extensive online resource library, GMCMI documents technical knowledge that would otherwise be lost. Maintenance procedures, parts interchange data, upgrade techniques, and restoration stories are all captured and shared.
  • Rally organization. GMCMI hosts national and regional rallies throughout the year, creating opportunities for owners to meet, share expertise, and travel together. These events are often where complex mechanical challenges get solved — by owners helping owners.
  • Parts and supplier connections. Through its Vendor Directory and Parts Interchange database, GMCMI connects owners with the resources they need to keep aging coaches on the road.
  • New owner support. Buying a GMC Motorhome without community support is difficult. GMCMI’s resources give new owners a foundation to understand what they’ve purchased, what needs attention, and who can help.

The Human Side

Behind the organizational structure is something more fundamental: people who genuinely love these coaches and the community around them.

At rallies, experienced owners freely share their knowledge with newcomers. When an owner runs into trouble on the road, the Assist List connects them with fellow members nearby. When someone loses a loved GMC community member, tributes flow through newsletters and online forums.

The club has outlasted the coaches’ original manufacturer, their original dealerships, and most of the people who originally bought them new. It has done so because the community it serves is real, active, and deeply committed.

Join the Community

If you own a GMC Motorhome — or are thinking about purchasing one — GMCMI membership is one of the most valuable investments you can make. The knowledge, connections, and support available through the club cannot be replicated anywhere else.

The GMC Motorhome legacy is alive. GMCMI is a primary reason why.
